Save Our Steeple
Good news – the steeple repair has been completed. The scaffolding will be removed within the next week or two. There is a small piece of work to repair the parapet over the church door that will likely be done in August, but it shouldn’t cause any disruptions to church activities.
As mentioned, Ib Jensen replaced the four gargoyles and all of the finials as well as replacing and repairing the concrete trim where needed. They also put metal flashing over the trim to protect it from the weather and repaired the crown over the St. Joseph statue.
We would like to thank you for your cooperation during the construction and we are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to date. At this time we have raised $40,331.40 - thank you! We will continue to allocate any donations to the Save Our Steeple fund as the final costs have not yet been determined. Also, thanks to everyone who contributed to our “finial” campaign!

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Many Jews expected a militarily strong messiah who would lead them into battle to be free of the Romans. Instead, Jesus humbly submitted to the will of his Father, even unto death. Yet he said his burden was light. Motivated by love of God and neighbor, our burdens can be lighter when carried with Jesus.
A prophecy from Zechariah tells of the Messiah coming into Jerusalem riding a donkey, proclaiming peace. His kingdom will stretch over the whole world. Saint Paul encourages the Romans to live according to the Spirit, not worldly desires. In the Gospel, Jesus praises his Father for the wisdom of revealing himself to the meek. Those who are burdened can find rest in him (FAITH Catholic).
In this week’s Encountering the Word video, Jeff Cavins reflects on the readings for the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time and discusses what it means to have “life in the Spirit” (5 1/2 mnts).
Children's Corner
- Kid's challenge this week: When we carry something heavy on our shoulders, we refer to it as a burden. Some burdens are heavier than others. Not all burdens are physical things, however. What are some examples of the kinds of burdens in life that people carry? In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells us how we can lighten our burden. What does Jesus say that we should do if we are burdened? One of the ways that we find rest in Jesus is through prayer. In prayer, we share our burdens with Jesus. Take some time now to share your burdens with the Lord and to find rest. (Loyola Press)
