Blessing of Candles
As the Presentation of the Lord falls on this Sunday, February 2, there will be a blessing of candles during all Masses this weekend. Please feel free to bring your candles from home if you would like to have them blessed.

The blessing of throats is a tradition in the Catholic Church, usually celebrate on February 3, the feast of St. Blaise. For those interested, a blessing of throats will take place after all Masses this weekend.

During this session, we will share the results of the Parish Renewal Survey conducted in June 2024, along with insights from the feedback we’ve received so far. Additionally, we will outline the next steps the team will take to facilitate the Parish Pastoral Renewal process at St. Joseph's.

Parking Update
St. Joseph Church is working with the City of Calgary, the Ward 7 Councillor’s office, and the community searching for options and solutions to our parking limitations. We are currently reaching out to parishioners looking for volunteers to join our Parking Steering Committee. If you can assist especially if you live in the Mount Pleasant area, we would be most grateful. If you can support us, please contact the Church office. Thank you.
We are planning a Parish Town Hall Meeting for late February to provide you with more information.
2024 Tax Receipts
2024 tax receipts are now available for pick up in the upper foyer. For any donations made to St. Vincent de Paul or made online through the Diocese, separate tax receipts will be issued.
Rediscover Catholicism Book Study
As you may remember, Fr. Tadeusz mentions plans of having a book study on Rediscover Catholicism, which was distributed over Christmas. We have attached a copy of the study guide below and ask that you kindly review it. You will notice that there are a total of six sessions. While we will try to provide a space in the parish for the book study, you are welcome to do it at home with your family and/or friends. If you are interested in joining or helping facilitate the book study, please contact the parish office.

The Psalms as a Way of Prayer - Lenten Mission with Fr. Julian Studden
How exactly do I pray? Frustrations vary for Christians when it comes to praying. Have you ever felt as though your words bounce off the ceiling, going nowhere? The Psalms can serve as our guide in one very important way: by praying them. By using the Psalms as our guide and language in prayer we can orient our minds, hearts, and words to a deeper experience with God.
The Psalms invite us to reflect deeply on the love of God, to ponder His nature, to celebrate our redemption and to poetically verbalize the triumphs and heartaches of life. The Psalms are a deep well from which we are invited to drink.
The Psalms teach the importance of being honest with God and that it’s OK to ask, “Why?” and “How long, O Lord?” We learn the necessity of submitting to Him in difficult times and the joy we have in approaching Him when we contemplate His greatness. Following the Psalter’s prayer patterns will enrich our prayers; make their substance fuller, and more Christ-centered. It is vital that we ask of every psalm just how it speaks to us of Christ and how we can respond to Him.
Come to our Parish Mission on THE PSALMS AS A WAY OF PRAYER from Monday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 7pm.
Monday: Introduction to the Book of Psalms. We will examine and pray Psalms 8,24, 66 and 103. God is praised as Lord, Creator and deliverer how does it involve me.
Tuesday: We will explore the psalmist’s emphasis on trusting God and the safeguard that trusting in God produces in Psalms 11, 23,131,63 and 91.
Wednesday: We will use the lament and penitential psalms which are written from an individual or national perspective to express our own sorrow for sin and prepare for Reconciliation; we will use Psalms 6,38, 51, 130.
Our Parish Lenten Penitential Service will be held on Wednesday, April 9 after the Lenten Mission.

The Presentation of the Lord
The presentation of the infant Jesus is the fulfillment of Malachi’s prophesy about the Lord entering the Temple – but he comes not in power and might, but as an infant in the arms of his mother. The passage shows the poverty of the little family (the offering of turtledoves for the mother’s purification sacrifice after childbirth is described in Leviticus 12: 6 as being appropriate for those who cannot afford a lamb). It also shows their piety: Jesus is being raised in a faithful Jewish family, consecrated to the Lord according to the Law. In this beautiful passage, Luke introduces us to two people who represent all those who have longed for the Lord for many, countless, long generations – all those who have been waiting for the Messiah to bring salvation to the People of God. Simeon and Anna place all their hope in God: this elderly man and this elderly woman are both people of prayer, full of faith. Both are given knowledge of the true identity of Jesus. Simeon is also given insight into the passion and suffering that lies ahead, and the sorrow that will pierce the heart of Mary.
- Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the Temple for a ritual purification and consecration. Today’s world often views ritual and liturgy as unnecessary or meaningless. What is the value of this sort of ritual to mark an important “life moment”?
- Where do you see evidence of both the humanity and the divinity of Jesus in this passage?
- The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple has been chosen by the Church as the Day of Consecrated Life – a day of prayer and recognition of all those who have taken vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in consecrated religious life. How does this Gospel passage speak to that vocation?
