As we begin the new year, I would like to take the time to thank you for your prayers, Christmas cards, and greetings.
Thank you to all clergy, staff, Parish leadership committees, and volunteers for sharing your time, talent, and treasure for our Christmas celebrations. I also wish to thank the team of volunteers, parents, and children who were involved in the Christmas Pageant; it has been many years since we last had one. And of course, thank you to all who attended our Christmas celebrations.

Parish Renewal Updates
As we begin the New Year, we thank you for your dedication to attending the Sunday Eucharist and supporting our parish in many other ways. We are very blessed by your commitment to the Lord and St. Joseph Parish.
With the arrival of a new year, we will be continuing the parish renewal, focusing on the theme of prayer.
Beginning this coming week, we will be offering a book study on “The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic”. More information will be provided at the end of Masses this weekend.
In February, will spend some time learning about the Mass during the homilies. A book providing one minute explanations about the Catholic Mass entitled “A Minute in the Church: The Mass” will be placed in the pews. Parishioners are encouraged to look through the book before or after Mass to deepen your understanding of an integral part of our faith.
From March 22-25, the Seeds of the Word Community will lead us into our Lenten
Mission on Lectio Divina (one of the tools to help us pray with the Scriptures). The Lenten Mission will conclude with a penitential service on Wednesday, March 25.
Later in the spring, a Bible sharing group will be offered. During the month of May, the rosary will be recited before Tuesday evening Mass, followed by fellowship in the hall.
Thank you for your prayers, presence, and support for our parish. We hope that you consider participating in some of the new activities.

The Baptism of the Lord
Dcn Dave Brokke, SOLT shares a reflection for the upcoming Baptism of the Lord. He reminds us that we are made sons of God in our baptism, and heirs to the kingdom of heaven. He encourages us to be mindful of this great gift we have been given (2 min 32 sec).
Here the Gospel reveals that Jesus is God’s beloved and the chosen servant of which Isaiah spoke. In Jesus we find God’s radical identification with the human condition in all things, including the repentance for sin. In that complete identification and “self-emptying” of God, all things human were filled with God’s righteousness. It is for this reason that Jesus “needed” to be baptized.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Rooted in Christ’s prayer “that they may all be one,” prayer for Christian unity remains a vital part of the Church’s life and mission.
Parishes are warmly invited to take part in the 2026 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by incorporating these resources into parish liturgies, prayer services, and ecumenical gatherings, and by inviting parishioners to pray intentionally for unity in their daily lives. Observed from January 18–25, 2026, this annual week calls Christians to remember that we are united in Christ, under the theme “There is one body and one Spirit” (Ephesians 4:4).

Marriage Enrichment Workshops
The Diocese invites engaged and married couples to strengthen their marriage through a guided workshop series.
- Jan 22: Communications Workshop for Couples
- Join Bill & Tracy as they explore communication styles, strengths and weaknesses within your relationship, and skill-building for strong communication in marriage. The evening will be presented in workshop style, so that each couple has time for discussion, planning, and exploring communication as a couple. Topics will include: communication styles, love languages, the importance of sharing experiences and stories within family life and communication tips.

- Screening: Triumph of the Heart
This January, Calgarians are invited to a special community screening of Triumph of the Heart, a powerful film on the life and martyrdom of St. Maximilian Kolbe. The film tells the true story of the Polish priest who, while imprisoned at Auschwitz during the Second World War, offered his life in place of another condemned prisoner. It is a moving witness to faith, courage, and sacrificial love. Tickets are approximately $7, with half of any proceeds donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. St. Michael’s Grief Support Ministry invites individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one to take part in an eight-week Grief Share Program.
